2nd Wind Power Project Commissioned By Nalco

National Aluminium Company Limited (Nalco) a public sector company of Government of India and Asia's largest integrated aluminium complex, encompassing bauxite mining, alumina refining, aluminium smelting and casting, power generation, rail and port operations.

As a diversification plan of the company it has set up its 2nd Wind power plant at Ludarva in Jaisalmer disctrict of the state of Rajasthan (India). The capacity of the power plan is recorded to be 47.6 MW and NALCO has successfully has successfully commissioned this wind power project on January 29th , 2014.

The total cost incured to complete the project was Rs. 283 crore and it was executed through M/s Gamesa Wind Turbines Private Ltd. The project comprised of erection of 56 Wind Turbines, each of 850 KW rating.

The comlete project was executed in 2 phase.

In the first phase of commissioning, 36 turbines were erected.

In the second phase, the remaining 20 turbines have been successfully commissioned.

This is the second green initiative of NALCO towards promoting sustainable development by harnessing the unconventional and renewable energy sources, which would credit the company with incentives from the Government.

Earlier, the company commissioned its first Wind Power Plant of 50.4 MW capacity at a cost of Rs.274 crore at Gandikota in Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh, in December, 2012.

Company also has plans to set up third wind power plant in its own mined out area of Panchpatmali Bauxite deposit in Koraput.
