Union Water Resources Ministry Approves Various Schemes in Uttarakhand

Union Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation has approved various schemes sent to it by Government of Uttarakhand. A new Ghat will be constructed in Haridwar at Chandighat. The construction will be managed by central PSUs and work will start next month. 

A consortium of engineers from central PSUs will be formed for strengthening the embankments of Mandakini and Saraswati rivers and construction of Ghats at Kedarnath. The consortium will prepare the DPR in consultations with the experts from Nehru Institute of Mountaineering, Uttarkashi. The sewage treatment plants at Muni ki reti and Jagjeetpura in Rishikesh will be set up by central PSUs. The work is likely to start by February next year. With regard to the assistance sought by the state government for Ardh Kumbh, it has been decided that wherever possible the same will accorded under Namami Gange programme. 

It may be recalled that a meeting was held between the Secretary of the Ministry Shri Shashi Shekhar and the Chief Secretary of Uttarakhand Shri Rakesh Sharma on 23rd of this month to discuss these issues. Subsequently, the Union Minister of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation Sushri Uma Bharti had a meeting with the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Shri Harish Rawat on 25th of this month at Dehradun where it was decided that Union Water Resources Ministry will soon take a decision on these issues.
