FASTagFASTag rules are going to undergo a major change from November 15, 2025. If you do not follow the FASTag rules, you may have to pay 1.25 times the toll. However, this is a relief for vehicles without FASTags, as they currently have to pay double the toll. According to government data, approximately 98% of tolls are collected through FASTags. If you have a valid FASTag, you can cross the toll without paying any money in some cases.

When will you have to pay 1.25 times the toll?

If you don't have a valid Fastag after November 15, 2025, or your Fastag isn't working properly, you'll have to pay 1.25 times the toll tax. Currently, you have to pay double the toll tax. This means that this applies to those without a valid Fastag. When will you be able to travel without paying toll?

Sometimes, the machines at toll plazas don't work properly. In such cases, toll is collected from people in cash or other ways. However, after November 15, 2025, if vehicle owners have a valid Fastag that works, but the toll plaza machine is malfunctioning and payment isn't being processed, they can travel without paying the toll.

Use of a Quality System
After the implementation of this new rule, toll collection agencies will be held accountable for machine malfunctions. When people with valid FASTags leave without paying, this will put pressure on agencies to maintain a quality toll system.

What if there's no FASTag?
If a vehicle owner doesn't have a FASTag or it's not working properly, they will have to pay 1.25 times the toll tax through UPI instead of cash. Currently, double the amount is charged. For a ₹100 toll, one has to pay ₹200. This ₹200 is a cash payment. Now, people will only have to pay ₹125 for a ₹100 toll, and that too through UPI. The reason behind implementing this new rule is to reduce cash transactions at toll plazas.

The collection system will be improved
The new toll collection system, which will come into effect on November 15th, will reduce the hassles of vehicle owners and drivers. If you have a valid FASTag, these new rules will prove very beneficial. If your FASTag has any technical issues, get them fixed as soon as possible.
