The ED has uncovered a scam involving MBBS admissions to medical colleges. According to reports, students used fake NRI documents to gain admission. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has uncovered a scam involving medical college admissions. The ED has uncovered a racket that used fake documents to secure admissions for students under the NRI quota. The investigation's most shocking revelation is that private medical colleges granted approximately 18,000 admissions to MBBS courses to students using fake documents. This was revealed in an investigation conducted with the assistance of the Ministry of External Affairs and Indian embassies.

What was discovered during the investigation?
An investigation by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has revealed that private medical colleges paid agents to prepare documents, such as NRI embassy documents and fake genealogies. In most cases, agents and medical colleges used the same documents for multiple candidates. The ED has conducted searches at various private medical colleges in West Bengal and Odisha, as well as the premises of their key individuals, agents, and other related individuals.

Breach of Rules
During the ED raids, numerous fake NRI certificates and seals of notary officers working in the United States were recovered. According to the rules, the fees of students admitted to medical colleges through the NRI quota must be paid by an NRI relative. However, the ED investigation has revealed that in most cases, these fees were not paid by NRI family members.

According to Supreme Court guidelines, only first-degree and second-degree NRI relatives are eligible to sponsor NRI quota students. However, in most cases, the fees are paid by the student's family. This has thwarted the flow of foreign exchange into India, one of the main objectives of granting admissions to NRI quota seats.
